Types of Charters

Inshore 

Inshore charters occur in the Intracoastal Waterway, Cape Fear River, Inlets, and the bays between Fort Fisher and Bald Head Island.  This is an excellent charter for people who may get sea sick, have small children, or who simply want to enjoy a nice laid back day of fishing and enjoy beautiful scenery and spectacular wildlife.  Local restaurants on the water are within distance for those who may want to stop and have lunch.  The Cape Fear region offers some of the most pristine inshore fishing grounds on the eastern seaboard.  Speckled Trout, Flounder, Red Drum, Virginia Mullet, and Sheepshead are just some of the fish that inhabit the inshore fishing grounds on the Cape Fear.  Light tackle utilizing artificial, dead, or live bait makes for an exciting day of inshore fishing and has proven to test even the most serious of anglers. 

Near-shore  -  .5 to 5 miles offshore.

 There are some big, fast, and hard hitting game fish that cruise our coastal waters and surrounding inlets.  Exciting acrobatics from King Mackerel, Spinner Sharks, tarpon, and the rare and elusive sail fish make for the thrill of a life time. Spanish and Boston Mackerel, Blue Fish, Flounder, Black Sea Bass, and Grey Trout are great fun to catch on ultra light tackle.  Whether trolling or casting into schools of fish, the near-shore trip has proven to make exciting memories that will last a lifetime. 

What do we need to bring for our fishing charter?

 Food, Drinks, Sunscreen, and a cooler.  Southern Sportfishing provides the Bait, Tackle, Rods and Reels, and the Fish!

Pleasure Cruises

 Pleasure cruises to Historic Downtown Wilmington, Bald Head Island, Wrightsville Beach, and Historic Southport are available with numerous restaurants and great shopping at any of these locations.  There is no better way to experience the Cape Fear region than by water, so leave the driving to us and climb aboard.

 Wildlife Tours

 Experience the beauty that nature has to offer by taking a wildlife sight seeing tour of the Intracoastal Waterway, Cape Fear River, or the Bays between Fort Fisher and Bald Head Island.  Dolphin, Birds, sea turtles, and crabs are among the many different creatures available to view in their natural habitat.  Stop for lunch or take a swim – the children love this trip.

 Memorial Services

 Services at sea to honor the memory of a loved one or close friend are available through Southern Sportfishing Inc.  This type of service has become increasingly popular over the past few years.  The natural beauty of the Cape Fear region adds a certain peace to loved ones, and as stated from other services, “it adds closure”.  Assistance with flower arrangements and clergy are available if needed.

 Video Packages

 Want to remember your trip for years to come?  Southern Sportfishing Inc. will video your charter and make a personalized movie for you to enjoy over and over again.  Southern Sportfishing Inc. has it’s own production team that handles the design and editing of your DVD.  The process takes between two to four weeks and the finished product will be mailed to your home.  The video can be purchased for $50.00.  Ask Capt.
